Preventing Alcoholism and Drug Addiction in Teenagers
The motivation of teenagers to use drugs or alcohol include several elements: they feel the need to experience new sensation, they want to have the impression to be more mature, drugs and alcohol sensitivity to them, or they simply want their friends do. The most exposed to alcohol and drug abuse and addiction are those who exposed to alcohol and drug abuse and addictions are those who have parental example and the ones that have mental, emotional and familial problems.
Good relationships to the parents, appropriate entourage and a comprehensive attitude from teachers prevent these dangers. A solid education and healthy social relationships will determine the teenager to say no to drugs and alcohol. And there are also other ways:
- - Openly communicate to your child how you feel about drugs and alcohol; you are a model to him, so he/she will rely on your opinion. Encourage healthy preoccupations and watch him/her
- - Entourage has a great influence. A child usually does what his friends do or his entourage encourages him to do. Friends that keep away from substance abuse make more likely for your child to avoid them, too.
- - Communities in which substances are difficult or impossible to find prevent him from starting
- - School interest decreases the risk
- - Church or other institutions that exclude drugs and alcohol are helpful
- - Programs to provide information on risks and consequence are also effective
The family must have a supportive attitude towards the addicted child on treatment, help hi/her to continue the medication.
