Attacking Alcoholism and It's Causes

The causes of alcohol-related problems may be genetic, social, psychological or psychosocial. The causes vary from a person to another: some people may be encouraged to drink by social problems, complex or inferiority, or the need to be accepted by others, others consider alcohol a solution to their dramatic experience. Other persons genetically inherit a predisposition for alcohol abuse, but that doesn't mean that they re born alcoholic, as is also true that, even if the parents never used alcohol, the child may equally become addicted. Poverty or abuse increases the risk.

Once started, drinking problem evolves, resulting in psychological or social problem, which have as possible solution more alcohol. Dependent people drink to avoid pain or shocking.

Alcohol abuse and addiction affect not only the persons with drinking problems, but also the ones that are close to them.

Of course, there are much more risks for drinkers: in America alcohol one hundred thousand people die every year of causes involving alcohol use and abuse. There are also severe health problems generated by heavy drinking, and increased risk for crime and suicide. Women's health is the most affected, although they use smaller quantities than men.

Alcohol also attacks mental health, making more serious already present diseases or developing others.

The wives and children of the alcoholics are the most frequent victims of the sexual and physical abuse, which can cause them severe psychological problems. In case of pregnant women, the risk doubles, because alcoholism attacks both mother and her unborn child.
