Alcoholism stages

There are few stages of alcoholism through which a person goes before reaching the final stage of alcohol abuse. There are lots of people that would have definitely experimented with alcohol. Over here we define four categories of alcoholic person that he or she goes before he falls prey to alcohol related diseases.

The four stages would be:

1. Use

2. Misuse of alcohol.

3. Abuse related to alcohol

4. Addiction and dependency on alcohol.

Talking about the four stages in alcoholism, these can be briefly defined as:

1) Use:

Without knowing the negative factors and negatives that would hamper a person’s body and then going for alcohol is the first stage. There are small kids and even teenagers that experience the first sip of alcohol without knowing the consequences is the first stage of alcoholism. This may also apply to drugs along with alcohol.

2) Misuse:

If there is person who consumes alcohol even after knowing what the negative consequences would be then this stage is the second stage known as the misuse stage of alcohol. There is large population that may opt for the misuse of alcoholism; this misuse is frequent and common among the teenagers and even people who are above the age of 40 years.

It is not necessary that at this stage a person may observe any negative effect of alcoholism, but he would drink lots despite knowing the facts that alcohol can really work as poison for any person. The consequences may start to show as the breaking of law and even drinking and driving.

3) Abuse:

Abuse would be when any person who repeatedly drinks inspite of being arrested and even after being told the consequences properly at this stage the person may be prone to the stage known as abuse. In this case the person may drink heavily and would neglect all the symptoms be it behavioral or physical. Neglecting them would turn him a victim of abuse related to alcohol.

4) Dependency or addiction:

When a person starts neglecting any effect of alcohol that is being caused to him and despite of it he consumes alcohol, then this stage is the final stage of alcoholism. This is the stage where the person has become dependent to the alcoholism.

This is a critical stage and may require doctor’s advice and proper medical care so be sure to get such assistance.

In events when the individual is simply in the prime or first or even may be in the second stage. There are no signs that he will spontaneously progress to the dependency stages. If at once the individual has attained the abuse stage there is a high probability that they will progress into dependency on the drugs or alcohol and professional help should be sought out.

Generally safe drinking can be said when a person intakes only two drinks a day. These alcoholic intakes are measured for a normal healthy person and to women who are not pregnant. If however the intake of alcohol increases, there might be problems with the person who is taking these quantities of alcohol.

Early alcoholic stages:

In early stages person basically falls prey to alcohol according ton the mood swing that he may face, the person may drink alcohol because he might be frustrated or even be low or at a bad phase of life. To cope up with such situations a person starts drinking alcohol. There are chances that the person and people among them are not able to identify that their family member is falling prey to alcoholism. They might not see the effects of alcoholic habits in the individual. He might often take large quantity of alcohol but then also there are no signs of dependency that the person may show to others.

In early stages body will not be much prone to drinking and the person may do without the regular dose of alcohol daily. If the person after heavy alcoholic habits even in the first stage starts leaving alcohol then withdrawal symptoms may soon start to show.

Middle stages of alcoholism:

These are stages when the desire to drink alcohol in a person gradually increases. Person starts to drink more and more alcohol; he loses his will power that lets him control his desire to consume alcohol. His tolerance decreases and he becomes a victim of alcoholic abuses, at this stage if the alcohol intake is considerably reduced by the person without actually checking with the doctor then withdrawal symptoms of alcohol may appear soon.

The alcohol drinking problems may be recognized by the person itself but now he seems to be drifted towards the stage of dependency towards alcohol. The person agrees in itself that he has a problem regarding the alcohol habits but he denies that in front of other people.

Ending alcoholism stages:

These are stages when the mood and dependency of the person directly increases according to the alcohol habits of the person. He feels relieved when he takes sip of alcohol; this stage is the most crucial stage and should be curbed well on time by the person. He or she needs to go to a professional medical expert and needs to take his advice.

At this stage the symptoms become more visible inn front of other people too, most of the alcoholics suffer malnutrition related problems. Alcohol in heavy amounts creates problem in the digestion process and blocks the transfer of nutrients in intestines and the bloodstream. Liver starts to get damaged limiting the change of nutrients into form that the body needs thus our organs can get something from them. The disrupted cells may not receive the required nutrients, they cannot repair themselves and the result of wear and tear continue in our body. Nutritional deficiencies cause lot of related diseases and problems to become worse. Like vitamin B-1 deficiency common in people who are alcoholics can result in loss of mental alertness and appetite, fatigue, confusion and emotional instability.

According to doctors when a patient reaches this particular stage at this time his chances of getting weak increases and he becomes totally dependent on alcohol for its day to day habits.

So treating it on time and getting rid of this habit is really necessary for the person who wishes to get himself treated for alcoholic habits.
